My aim is to offer you the opportunity to discuss and explore your difficulties within a confidential and supportive space, to advise and help you decide on the best way forward in terms of psychological and therapeutic treatment, and to work with you to help you change the things that brought you to therapy.
AREAS OF DIFFICULTY
I provide therapy to adults of all ages, from working age to post-retirement and offer short term or longer term treatment. I can provide help with trauma and PTSD, low mood, depression, anxiety disorders, adjustment difficulties, bereavement, relationship and interpersonal problems, and pain.
As I am also trained in neuropsychology, I understand how changes to the brain caused by, for example, head injuries, stroke, dementia or health can affect behaviour, thoughts and emotions and I can provide help with these areas of difficulty and their impact, for example on close relationships.
WAY OF WORKING AND THERAPIES OFFERED
I work in a psychologically informed and collaborative way which means that our therapy will be led by a psychological formulation and understanding of your difficulties. Based on this, we will together work out the best way forward regarding your treatment.
The main therapeutic approach I use is Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), although I most often work in an integrative way incorporating other approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT). Ultimately the approach taken will depend on your individual needs, the psychological formulation of your difficulties and what appears to be the most appropriate approach.
Individual therapy sessions typically last 50 minutes. We may at times need to arrange longer sessions for EMDR.
